A delegation from Lviv State University of Life Safety took part in a seminar on threat awareness in post-conflict environments as part of the ‘Cross-border Flood Response Training in Post-conflict Environments – CROSSFLOOD’ project, which is funded by the European Union, represented by the European Commission.
The seminar was held in line with the international conference, exhibition and training sessions organised by NCT Europe on CBRN, C-IED and EOD, which was attended by international delegations from across Europe.
University representatives delivered a presentation ‘Lessons learnt from recent operations concerning CBRN incidents and mine action activities’. It highlighted real-life cases of threats arising from radiation and chemical contamination of land in post-conflict environments (on the example of the war in Ukraine). Strategies for effective emergency response operations were examined, with particular attention to threats related to radiation and chemical contamination, remnants of war, and risks from explosive ordnance. The presentation prompted many questions and generated considerable interest among the audience.
Following the meeting, recommendations were made to refine the training programme developed as part of the preparations for the Full-Scale Field Exercise (FSX) to implement the relevant project activities, which form an integral part of the successive phases of the ‘CROSSFLOOD’ project.
It should also be noted that the above-mentioned activity is provided for in Work Package 6, for which the LSULS is the lead contractor and is directly responsible for the implementation of this package of the Grant Agreement.
