From 30 September to 3 October 2026, the full-scale field exercise ‘CROSSFLOOD’ took place in Siret (Romania) as part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
Ukraine was represented by the staff and cadets from Lviv State University of Life Safety, and the rescuers from Cherkasy region. The Ukrainian team operated in the areas of flood response, mine action, radiological, chemical, biological and nuclear (CBRN) protection, and unmanned systems.
Participants practised rapid response to a large-scale cross-border flood, including the search and evacuation of victims, aerial reconnaissance, identification of hazardous substances, decontamination, surveying areas for explosive ordnance, pumping water, and deploying robotic systems.
Ukrainian specialists worked alongside teams from Romania, Estonia, France, Austria, the Czech Republic, and other countries, practising coordination in the context of a large-scale emergency.
The experience gained during the exercises will be utilised in the educational programme at the Lviv State University of Life safety and in the training of future specialists for the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
