Demercurization practice in LSULS

These days a practical lesson was held with the 4th year students of "Civil Defense" in
discipline "Protection of the population and territories in peacetime and special period" in the organization and
demercurization. Scientific and pedagogical staff of the department Victor Kovalchuk and
Marian Lavrivsky created conditions for simulating mercury spills indoors.
The cadets used mechanical and chemical methods of demercurization. Measures were taken
regarding special protection of clothing and footwear. Measures were also taken to provide
medical and psychological assistance to victims. It should be noted that conducting practical lessons improves skills in safe
handling of hazardous chemicals, and enhances professionalism of the future
rescuers.
