Innovative technologies in linguistics and translation: first university international conference

On March 26, 2024, the University hosted the First International Conference on Innovative Technologies in Linguistics and Translation, organized by the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies.
The conference was attended by representatives of the University of Kansas (USA), the University of Warsaw (Poland), and the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). Ukraine was represented by Lviv State University of Life Safety, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, National University of Ostroh Academy, National Technical University "KhPI", Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University, and Ivan Franko Drohobych State Pedagogical University.
Professor Mark Greenberg's presentation "Encyclopedia of Slavic Languages and Linguistics" was a significant highlight. Professor Mark Lazinski's reports were also of great interest, introducing a new reference corpus for the Polish language. A presentation by Dr. Andrej Perdih and Dr. Duša Rejc from Slovenia was focused on improving the FRAN portal for the Slovenian language.
Participants of the conference discussed the use of artificial intelligence and machine translation in modern linguistic research, software for in-depth analysis of language structures as well as the integration of modern foreign language teaching technologies in the field of civil security, compilation of fire and chemical safety glossaries using innovative computer technologies, and value aspects of the war discourse in modern journalism.
The Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation Studies, Professor Oleh Tyshchenko, PhD in Economics Yulia Demyanchuk, Associate Professor Maria Ivanchenko, lecturers Maria Malaniuk, Natalia Ivanyshyn, Maryna Kucherenko and others, master's students and undergraduates took an active part in organizing and holding the conference.
