Post-graduate student Iryna Fediv took over the experience at Hegeminas Vilnius Technical University in Lithuania

On November 21-27, a post-graduate student of the Department of Environmental Safety, Captain of the Civil Protection Service, Iryna Fediv was on a working visit at Gežeminas Vilnius Technical University (Republic of Lithuania) within the Ukrainian-Lithuanian project "Environment-saving technology of wastewater purification ecologically with pure modified natural sorbents from nitrogen, phosphorus, and surface-active substances".
During the visit, Iryna Fediv performed a study of the kinetics and dynamics of the adsorption of bentonite, glauconite, and clinoptilolite in the university labs. This project is aimed at developing a tertiary (deep) cleaning
wastewater method from compounds of phosphorus, nitrogen, and surfactants. As environmentally friendly and inexpensive absorbers, natural minerals were chosen – bentonite, glauconite, and clinoptilolite. To increase their sorption capacity and selectivity, it is proposed to use three different methods of modification, namely: thermal (heating for freeing pores from excess moisture), chemical (using the solutions that increase the sorption capacity and selectivity of sorbents according to the aforementioned pollutants), and exposure to UV radiation. As a result of the project, it is planned to develop a multilayer filter with a backfill made of environmentally friendly natural materials absorbers. Iryna Fediv learned about the scientific directions of the Department of Environmental Protection at the university, planned research and joint exercise in the future, and discussed the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement.
