Department of industrial and occupational safety
The department of IS and OS provides training for bachelors in 1702 “Civil defence” in 6.170202 “Occupational safety” as well as for both specialists and masters on 7(8).17020201 “Occupational safety in the sphere of civil defence”. On 2012 the department had the first graduation of specialists on academic level of “bachelor”. Cadets and students of the department of industrial safety and occupational safety gain necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills on occupational safety management, formation of set of measures on hazard identification, its elimination to permitted values, preventive measures of industrial injuries and occupational diseases as well as creation of favorable working conditions.
In process of training our cadets and students study both general and specialist disciplines with a degree in “Supervisory activities organization in the sphere of occupational safety”, “Social and economic basics of occupational safety”, “Industrial sanitation”, “Physiology and workplace hygiene”, “Workplace assessment and manufacturing certification”, “Investigation, record and experience of accidents”, “Legal foundations of health and safety policy and occupational safety”, “Occupational safety management” etc, they undertake an internship in education fire department of the University, The State Service of Mining Supervision and Industrial Safety as well as on enterprises and institutions of different ministries and agencies.
On graduation from the university, the graduates are able to obtain employment in all institutions, enterprises and organizations irrespective of their form of ownership, in State supervisory bodies of occupational safety, in government agencies and municipalities (departments, branches on the questions of occupational safety): Occupational safety and health department, utilization of manpower resources and employment of population of Main department of labour and social protection of regional state administration.

History of the department:
The department of industrial and occupational safety is major structural educational unit of Institute of Civil Defense and start its work since 1990 when practical training cycle, to which educational fire department belonged, was founded by the order of the Chief of Lviv fire and technical school MIA USSR colonel A.S. Kosivchenko. Burylo Viktor Mykolayovych,the colonel of internal service, was appointed as the the Chief of the department.

In 2001 by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Lviv fire and technical school was reformed into Lviv State University of Life safety of MIA of Ukraine. Due to this fact, as per administrative order of rector of Lviv state university of Life safety, Сolonel M.M.Kozyar from 28.04.01 №33 on site of practical training cycle the department of “Service and training organization” was founded. Dvoryanyn Ihor Vasylyovych, colonel of Internal service, was appointed as the chief of the department.

Practical classes on "Primary Training of the Fire Rescuer" as well as "Occupational Safety in the SES units" take place in the training fire department of the University.

The Department of PB and OP cooperates with the departments of other universities, including the Department of Chemical Engineering (Head of the Department Professor Atamanyuk VM), Department of Occupational Safety (Head of the Department Professor Nagursky OA), Department of Thermal Engineering and Thermal Power Plants (Head of the Department Professor Misak Yosyp Stepanovych) National University of Lviv Polytechnic, Department of Technology of Woodworking and Wood Protection (Head of the Department Professor Professor Biley PV) of the National Forestry University of Ukraine, as well as the Higher Technical School of Safety and Labor Organization (Rad Ohm, Republic of Poland) and the Higher School of Occupational Safety Management in Katowice (Poland). Lecturers of the department take part in scientific-methodological seminars of educational institutions of І-ІІ levels of accreditation of Ternopil region, and on the basis of the department teachers of these institutions are trained.
Once every three years, teachers of the department trainee at SE “Main Educational and Methodical Center” and then pass on knowledge to colleagues from the western region who come to them for internships. In November 2011, scientific and pedagogical staff received first aid training, which were conducted at the University by specialists of the Red Cross from Germany and received appropriate certificates.In order to exchange experience Ph.D., Associate Professor of the department Stanislavchuk OV visited Dobrotvorskaya TPP in Lviv region, where labor safety issues are given the highest priority.
Within the framework of the agreement on cooperation between the Lviv State University and the Higher Engineering School of Safety and Labor Organization of the Polish city of Radom, as well as the Higher School of Occupational Safety Management in Katowice, it is planned to participate in the preparation and holding of a scientific and practical conference on the training of occupational health professionals in April 2016.
The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department carry out scientific work in the areas of research of the professional direction of the University: "Life Safety", "Occupational Safety", "Industrial Safety", "Fire Safety".
It has become a tradition at the Department of Industrial Safety and Labor Protection to hold field meetings of the Organizing Committee for the preparation and holding of events to mark the Occupational Safety Day in Lviv, as well as field meetings of representatives of the Regional Offices of the Executive Directorate of the Social Insurance Fund for Accidents of Ukraine.
The achievements and achievements of the department are devoted to publications in 2013 in such leading editions of Ukraine on labor protection issues as Technopolis and Labor Protection.

At the department there is a cadet-student scientific society, whose participants take an active part in the scientific research of the department on problems of occupational safety and fire safety, scientific conferences and competitions of scientific works.Scientific works of cadets and students at the All-Ukrainian competitions of scientific cadets and students work annually occupy the II-III places (cadet Pavlyuk Edward - III place, cadet Hayduk Maxim - II place, cadet Kupyak Igor-III place, student StanislavIchuk).
In 2008, Vladimir Lapshin cadet took 1st place in the 2nd stage of the BZD Olympiad and the 3rd place in the 1st International Student Olympiad.
In 2016, at the All-Ukrainian Olympiad for the Safety of Life in Rivne, cadet Rusnak Olga took the 2nd place and the distinction for the high level of knowledge from the NMC SES of Ukraine in Rivne region.
It has become a good tradition for the International Labor Day to hold scientific and practical conferences. Thus, in April 2013, the 1st International Scientific and Practical Conference of students, cadets, adjuncts and graduate students took place, in which students and cadets from six countries of the world participated. This year, it is planned to hold the VII Inter-University Scientific-Practical Conference of students, cadets, adjuncts and graduate students on the theme: "Problems and Prospects for the Development of Occupational Safety in Ukraine", which annually attracts a large number of participants from many universities in Ukraine. Speakers comprehensively analyze the existing problems in the field of occupational safety and industrial safety in various industries, characterize the main physical, chemical, energy, psychological and other factors that have a negative impact on the state of occupational diseases, intoxication and occupational injuries, determine the main directions of solving existing problems .
For the eighth year, the Department of Industrial Safety and Health has been a profile unit of the Institute of Civil Protection of Lviv State University of Life Safety. The year 2013 was a milestone in its history - the first graduation of bachelors (20 students and 5 cadets) in the new direction of training "Labor protection" and the first set of masters and specialists. The preparation is carried out in accordance with the key provisions of the Bologna Process.
Students and students of the Department of Industrial Safety and Health acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in occupational safety management, forming a set of measures to identify dangerous and harmful production factors, their elimination or reduction to acceptable values, prevention of occupational injuries and occupational diseases, as well as favorable working conditions.

In order to deepen theoretical knowledge and acquired skills, they conduct practical classes with future specialists in leading laboratories and industrial enterprises of Lviv region and neighboring regions.
Students and cadets are introduced to technological processes, equipment, measures to create safe working conditions. Among the "training grounds" are the laboratory of the Department of Chemical Engineering of the National University "Lviv Polytechnic", the Factory of prefabricated structures, a research and forensic center, a detachment of the technical service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.
Students and students of the OP-21 and OP-31 groups will be remembered for a long time on November 25, 2010, when they had the unique opportunity to descend to a depth of more than 500 m in six mines of SE "Lvivvuhillya" in Chervonohrad and visit the Lviv-Volynskyi military mine. rescue squad. Due to the difficult situation in the country and the introduction of the regime of high readiness in its territory, there was a need to increase the level of knowledge of the population on civil protection and the provision of first aid.
For this purpose the teachers of the department: Assoc. Telegina GV and RV Ovary, as well as cadets and students, classes were conducted with students of two districts of Lviv to provide first aid in case of:
- bleeding;
- injuries;
- burns,
as well as the rules for cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Such classes have been repeatedly held for everyone, within the framework of the program organized by the city council at special sites on the Market Square.
Actively work with students and cadets curators who regularly spend with the groups assigned information hours, excursions to places of interest in the city and beyond.
A charity event was organized and held on St. Nicholas Day: "Make a gift with your own hands".
Everyone wished to make and paint Yavoriv toys, which were handed over to orphanages.
Within the framework of the Occupational Safety Day, a drawing contest was held among the students of Lviv Secondary School # 55: “Protecting Labor through the Eyes of Children”. The winners of the competition were honored with certificates and gifts from the University on the line dedicated to the end of the school year.

Cadet OP-6m Thoruk Roman has high achievements in fire and applied sports: master of sports of Ukraine, record holder of Ukraine, winner of many competitions of different levels. In May of this year he won the first place at the Championship of Ukraine, and in October 2012 - in Antalya (Turkey) at the VIII World Championship of Applied Sports he became the leader of our team, which took 3rd place.
On October 7, the Ukrainian Rescue Team brought to Kiev the Cup of the IX World Fire Fighting Rescue Championship held in Chinju, Korea. Roman Thoruk became the world champion in the national team of Ukraine on fire-rescue sport and the champion on fire relay.
Cadet OP-6m Curly Irina became the champion of Ukraine in weightlifting.
Cadet Shvets Yuriy repeatedly took the prize-winning places in Ukrainian salvage championships.
