The seminars of the department of foreign languages and technical translation took place
During the week, the lecturers of the department of foreign languages and technical translation held a regular session of Methodological Seminar of foreign language lecturers of Ukrainian educational institutions and the seminar "Theory and Practice of Military and Technical Translation."
On the methodological seminar Ulyana Potyatynyk, the associate professor of English philology department at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, introduced to the audience analysis of sociocultural linguistic and spoken forms of expressing the concept of politeness in English. British society, like any other, is characterized by class stratification which provides specific ways of verbal behavior. Different models of verbal and ekstra-verbal behavior in the context of politeness manifestation were shown by the example of the TV series «Keeping up the Appearances».
The report of Lyubov Didukh, the lecturer of the department of foreign languages and technical translation of LSU LS, concerned the use of web-quests in educational activities of cadets and students, in particular, during the study of foreign language. The technology of Web-quests promotes the search and consolidation of information and as well as presentation of the obtained results. The organization of work in Web-quest format requires careful selection of information and evaluation criteria.
Executive Secretary of the Technical Standardization Committee for of scientific and technical terminology Roman Mysak informed the audience of the seminar "Theory and Practice of Military and Technical Translation" both with advantages and disadvantages of making and viewing electronic dictionaries PolyDic v.1.0., s well as with the directions of the Committee activities. In particular, he talked about terminological series of electronic dictionaries SlovoSvit, founded in 2000.
Romana Savruk, the lecturer of the department of Foreign Languages and Technical Translation of LSU LS, emphasized in her presentation the peculiarities of translation of the news for the Web-pages of the University, she also analyzed the most common mistakes.
