University holds Interuniversity Research and Practice Seminar on Rhetoric
The University held interuniversity research and practice seminar on rhetoric on October, 21. Such issue as problems of technical and existential approaches to rhetoric teaching in universities was discussed. The seminar was opened by the chief of Ukrainian Studies department M.M. Labatch, who gave the grounds for actuality and necessity of the seminar. She confirmed that rhetoric is the most important component for specialist’s education in different spheres of activity, especially in people’s safety field. The lecturer O. M. Shelukh was reporting about peculiarities and methods of teaching rhetoric as a separate subject at our University. She mentioned that rhetoric plays a significant role in the frame of specialist’s education of civil defense sphere. In particular, it forms and develops language competence of future specialists. It teaches them how to communicate sensibly, structurally, convincingly and successfully and also ensures personal, professional and self-representative activity measurement. Eventually, she convinced that rhetoric is a core subject, which gives an opportunity to achieve the most important goal in the world – to become good person.
Representatives from different educational institutions in Lviv namely, Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Dnipropetrovsk National University of Railway Transport named after academician V. Lazaryan took part in the discussion of current issues in discourse rhetoric. Yevhen Romanuk, teacher at Secondary School №22 in Lviv, honored teacher of Ukraine, all-Ukraine competition laureate «Teacher of the Year», excellence in Education of Ukraine, specialist in educational methods was invited.. He shared his opinion concerning the cultivation of individual’s linguistic culture. The basics of linguistic culture are nurtured in Secondary Schools and then High Schools direct them in professional channel. The lecturer of Lviv Polytechnic National University Shmilykh I. D. reported about «The means of audience attention intensification». She focused her mind on teaching rhetoric in Higher Educational Institutions. She considers that contact with the audience is the most important component of rhetoric skills of speaker. Ch. Y. Mackowych’s report about «Ethos in rhetoric activity of lecturer» provoked heated discussion, because both cadets and students took part in seminar. They expressed their opinion about ideal lecturer as the speaker has to be.
An excellent summary was made by H. H. Khlypavka, who suggested philosophic approach to the rhetoric issue. She said that people’s language is a person’s being. All participants agreed that it is difficult to ponder over the deep nature of the word, its opportunity to destroy humanity and also create human unity. The leading motive of seminar was directed to the idea that it is impossible for people to improve their intercourse only by following technologies and without any changing of their inner world.
