The Teachers and the Students of the Department of Foreign Languages and Technical Translating Translated at Exercise “Ukraine-2015”
During jointly organized international exercise of SSES of Ukraine and NATO in prevention and elimination of the results of emergencies “Ukraine-2015” which took place in Lviv region on 21-25 September took part more than thousand participants from thirty-three countries members and partners of NATO. Field exercise, practicing fire-rescuing skills in close to real conditions required not only quick and well-coordinated work of rescuers but also mutual understanding. Team-participants from different countries spoke English and those who did not know English were helped by translators – the teachers and the students of the department of foreign languages and technical translating, and also and the cadets of LSU LS. Complex investigation of the area of the emergency situation, using air and land equipment, fire-rescuing work, work of radiation, chemical and biological experts, first aid were done through the mediation of translators. Separate exercise was done for reporters who covered the elimination of consequences of natural and technogenic catastrophe. Under the supervision of the best NATO translators Ian Kameron and William McDauel philological students felt as if they were real reporters and at the end of the day they held their first press-conference. The chairman of SSES of Ukraine Mykola Chechotkin summing up the results of exercise indicated that all the tasks which the teams-participants faced were done at the highest professional level with the help of the team of translators from LSU LS.
