Among the many thousands of liquidators of the Chernobyl accident there are current employees of the University – the Head of the Institute of Postgraduate Education Vyacheslav Koshelenko and the head of the research laboratory Vitalii Petrovskyi, as well as veterans of the institution: Anatolii Antoniuk, Olexander Havrylko, Igor Ivaneiko, Vyacheslav Kisil, Artur Lebid, Mykhailo Sudnitsyn, Andrii Kharchuk, Orest Yurents and the late Ivan Bilenko and Bogdan Hrutsai. It is thanks to the courage and sacrifice of these people it was managed to tame the "peaceful atom" at Chernobyl. Overall, about 500 graduates participated in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident.
The challenge in Chernobyl in 1986 was performed by cadets-volunteers of the institution headed by former teacher, retired Colonel Mykhailo Sudnitsyn. The dangers of the work prove the following fact - three of the nine passed away, the rest are disabled for health reasons. In particular, they performed decontamination of technological platforms of ventilation pipe of 3rd and 4th Chernobyl nuclear power and dumped radioactive debris graphite rods in the mouth of the destroyed reactor.
