March 3, 2016 at LSU LS it was held an Interuniversity art seminar "Embroidered towel is given for happiness and good fate...»  Ph.D., assistant professor of the department of Ukrainian Studies of LSUIA Liudmyla Andrushko made a speech.
Rapid social and political changes in Ukraine caused interest in Ukrainian culture including embroidery. If for the world our embroidery is just a fashionable trend but for us, Ukrainians, it is a cultural stratum from which each succeeding generation must draw spiritual strength, reading (consciously or subconsciously) ornaments encrypted information.
Even 100 years ago, exploring embroidery, art critic Volodymyr Stasov said: "The peoples of the ancient world ornament never included a single superfluous line, each trait had a definite value here ... This is a difficult language, consistent tunethat has its cause and is designed not only for the eyes but also for the mind and the senses. "
The participants learned how to "decode" a complex and rich towel language that has been a fixture of our everyday life, traditional decoration of homes. Important events in the life of the people are never done without a towel: on the towel dear guests were served bread and salt, a new-born was taken on a towel, there was also a towel used at the funeral, the special role a towel played in wedding ceremonies. For obvious reasons the wedding towel topic interested the audience the most and they discussed it with great pleasure. It was surprisingly unexpected surprise to find out that not only girls continue the embroidering tradition but also some boys who study at our university.
Embroidered towel as a spiritual guardian unites Ukrainian generation, and thus "tree of life" (common motif of wedding towel) of our people continues to blossom and green.
