The main task of the department is the formation of personality of cadets and students with developed intelligence, active civic position, with a sense of national dignity and humanity.

History of the department:

The Department of Humanities and Social Work has more than 60 years of history, which dates back to the inception of our institution. Its prehistory began in the Kiev courses of retraining officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR (1947-1952). By order of the Head of Courses No. 38 of March 26, 1951, a Subject-Methodical Commission of Social Disciplines was created at the Courses, headed by Captain Didenko P.U. On November 1, 1952 a series of social sciences was formed at the Courses. Its first leader was Lieutenant Colonel Nikolaenko AS The cycle of social sciences was a structural unit of the Kyiv Fire and Technical College (1952-1954), and after its move to Lviv - the Lviv Fire and Technical College (1954-2001). The main task of the employees of the cycle (mainly certified posts) was ideological and political-educational work among the cadets and employees of the school.
During the existence of the cycle of social sciences (1954-1991) Orshansky V.E., Kalmykova T.I., Falyenkov M.V., Swan K.P., Golubenko I.K., Kharchuk A.I., Salo I. worked here .A., Puzirkov EV, Varzegova GA, Panov MM, Tkachenko BI etc.
In August 1991 the cycle of social sciences was abolished and the cycle of organization of state fire protection was formed (with this name it functioned until 2001). Thus, within the framework of the ODPO cycle, teachers of the disciplines of humanitarian and technical direction were united (Petrenko AP, Terletsky OI, Zhelezko VF, Chukhri OD, Saliichuk OF, Afanasiev V .D., Minkovich VG, Tarnavchik TM, Senik BI, Gladysh VM, Shelyukh YE, Osipov VV, Prystavskaya DS, Spernal LT ., EP Ace, AP Polovko, LT Shimko, MI Nagirnyak, RV Lavretsky, OM Shelyukh (Dolinyuk), AG AG, etc. .

Following the reorganization of the LPTU into the Lviv Fire Safety Institute (June 21, 2001), the ODPO cycle was liquidated, and the Department of Humanities and Socio-Economic Disciplines was established. During its existence (2001-2004) the employees of the department were Afanasiev VD, Chukhri OD, Saliichuk OF, Lavretsky RV, Nagirniak MI, Demchishak RB, Gorodetska N .L., The Great R.G. In September 2004, the department was reorganized into the department of social and humanitarian disciplines.

In April 2013 the department got a modern name. During its existence, the department (cycle) provided teaching for about four dozen subjects, among which - the history of Ukraine; philosophy; philosophy and methodology of science; philosophical methods of scientific knowledge; sociology; Politology; religious studies; professional ethics and service etiquette; professional ethics; social work; demography; ethnopsychology; basics of ecological culture and ethnic ecology, etc.
