Branch of UNESCO Department

History

In 1999 an idea that was born during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Kyiv Polytechnical Institute, was put into practice. UNESCO Director-General Federico Mayor and Rector of KPI M. Zgurovsky signed an agreement on the establishment of UNESCO Department at "KPI". By that time our country has experienced crises; modern technologies and industries were not requested,  attitude to technicians changed badly. Therefore, the system of higher technical education had to submit their voice and to find understanding in society, because higher technical education is the "critical technology" for development. So the UNESCO department all these years does a lot to reflect European ways of  technical education development.

Throughout the history of the Department there were 12 international conferences. In particular, in 2001 UNESCO International Conference gathered rectors of technical universities in Central and Eastern Europe  to discuss the Bologna initiatives. As you know, today Ukraine joined the Bologna process, and "KPI" base set for testing of European innovation in education. And no wonder, because the CPI was attached a pioneer in the European educational space.

UNESCO Department participaed in the organisation of eLearning Virtual Campus for the Universities of Central and Eastern Europe. 12 higher education institutions from 8 countries joined the project.

In April 2006 the branch of UNESCO Department was established at Lviv State University of Life Safety. The branch is headed by Colonel Taras Rak.

In 2007 a branch of the UNESCO Department presented a report "New Information Technologies in Education for Everyone" on its activities over the past year.
